Highlanders Upset Reigning Premiers

by | Jun 15, 2026 | Sport

The Inverell Highlanders have scored their biggest scalp of the year, knocking over reigning premiers Quirindi Lions at Rugby Park on Saturday in Central North Rugby Round 10 results.

1st grade coach Gemma Noller says her team’s 46-24 win was well deserved, taking their defensive game to the next level in front of a massive crowd for Ladies Day.

Noller says to hold the Lions to 7 points for 60 minutes was just reward for the amount of work they’ve put in over the last fortnight.

In other results, Narrabri Blue Boars thumped Gunnedah Red Devils 59-0 while Moree Bulls were too good for Pirates in Tamworth winning 45-12.

The Highanders Reserve Grade team went down to Quirindi in a close match 39-32 while their Women’s team scored an empathic 60-22 win.
