Helicopter Inspections Begin in Gwydir Shire

by | Mar 24, 2026 | Agriculture, Environment

Gwydir Shire Council Biosecurity Officers are conducting helicopter inspections along the Gwydir River, from the base of Copeton Dam through to Gravesend.

Inspection began yesterday and will continue through to next Thursday the 2nd of April with these inspections, part of ongoing efforts to monitor and manage Alligator Weed.

Alligator weed is a potentially devastating weed that grows in water and on land, disrupting the aquatic environment by blanketing the surface and impeding the penetration of light, whilst competing with and displacing native flora along river and creek banks and in wetlands.

Council says these inspections are an important step in protecting their waterways and surrounding environments from invasive species.
