The Inverell Hawks have won through to their second successive Grand Final after they held on to defeat the Tingha Tigers 36-24 at Varley Oval yesterday in the Group 19 major semi-final.
Scores were tight throughout the contest with the Hawks leading 26-24 midway through the 2nd half before pulling away late in the game.
Hawks 1st grade coach Jamie McCormack says it was extremely tough game against the Tigers but is elated to have secured the home ground grand final in a fortnight.
Meantime Uralla eliminated Warialda Wombats from the finals race after their 38-18 minor semi win to set up a preliminary final against the Tingha Tigers this weekend.
In other major semi-finals played yesterday, Glen Innes thumped Uralla 52-0 in the Juniors, Tingha’s Ladies League Tag team advanced to another grand final after they defeated Glen Innes 14-10, and Warialda held on to defeat Inverell 19-14 in Reserve grade.
In Minor semi finals results, Moree Boomerangs defeated Guyra in ladies league tag 28-4 while the Boomerangs accounted for Tingha in Reserve grade 26-16
