Inverell Hawks have concluded the regular Group 19 rugby season as convincing minor premiers and will host the major semi-finals in a fortnights time
In the final round on Saturday, the Hawks and Glen Innes Magpies coaches agreed to call the game off at halftime as conditions at Varley Oval worsened and the Hawks were leading 6 points to 4.
Both camps were concerned at the risk of player injuries in the wet and slippery conditions.
In Tingha, the home side went down to the Uralla Tigers 12-8 in a match played in the snow with the result ensuring Uralla finished 3rd after the home and away season.
In Ladies League Tag, Glen Innes made short work of Inverell winning 26-4 while Tingha blitzed Uralla 50-nil.
Meantime, Group 19 have made the decision to make this year’s finals series a 5 team final in the best interest of the competition after an executive meeting last week.
Finals kick off this weekend with Tingha hosting Uralla again at Bob Ward Oval in a Qualifying final while Warialda are at home to Guyra in an elimination final.
