The Inverell Hawks have had a solid hit out against the Dungowan Cowboys, going down in a close match 28-22 at Kamilaroi Oval.
A Dungowan chip and chase in the last minute of the game gave the Cowboys a thrilling victory in very hot conditions.
Hawks 1st grade coach Jamie McCormack says it was a good hit out for the team, singling out centres Dion French and Beudeen Reid as well as Lock Cody Berry as standouts in his team’s first preseason match of the year.
Mr McCormack says the Hawks Ladies League Tag and U18s team were comprehensively defeated with coaches to be working hard to ensure both teams are ready for Round 1 next month.
Meantime, the Inverell Highlanders trail match against Coffs Harbour was called off as the grounds were too wet following the recent cyclone event.
