Gunnedah Red Devils Win Central North Rugby Minor Premiership Despite Loss

In one of the biggest upsets this season in Central North Rugby, bottom side Pirates have exorcised competition leaders the Gunnedah Red Devils 45-38 on Saturday in the final round of the year.

Pirates win has handed the Inverell Highlanders to the wooden spoon for 2025.

In the other 1st grade game, Moree Weebolla Bulls have warmed up for the finals knocking over reigning premiers Narrabri Blue Boars 33-31 in the match of the round.

Despite the loss, Gunnedah finishes the home and away season as the minor premier with Moree finishing 2nd followed by Quirindi in 3rd and making up the final four was Narrabri.

The first week of the finals will see Quirindi Lions host Narrabri Blue Boars in a knockout semi-final this Saturday while Gunnedah will prepare to face Moree in a fortnight at home in a major semi final with the winner of that game to host this year’s Central North Grand Finals.

The Inverell Highlanders Reserve grade team scored 33-19 win over Barraba at Rugby Park while it’s Women’s 10s side went down to 34-7
