Grass Fire Warning

by | Jul 24, 2024 | Rural | 0 comments

Despite still being in winter, NSW Rural Fire Service a warning of the threat of grass fires in the region.

This week Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to a grass fire burning to the northwest of Uralla, which quickly jumped a road and threatened two properties, with firefighters having to undertake property protection.

The Service states the incident acts as a timely reminder that fires can occur at any time of the year adding even though the region has experienced wet weather, the grasslands can quickly dry out and become fire prone and urged landholders to be prepared for the threat of fire.

Meantime, firefighters from Northern Tablelands assisted by NSW RFS North Eastern Area Command Mitigation Crews will be taking advantage of favourable weather conditions to undertake a 6ha Hazard Reduction Burn on Ponds Road in the Inverell Local Government Area on Wednesday.

Residents will see increase in smoke throughout the day.
