Glen Innes Severn Council has decided not to apply for a special rate variation, forcing a councillor to file a notice of motion after it was revealed that Council was carrying a $4 million operating deficit.
The Northern Daily Leader reports Cr Troy Arandale is so concerned about his council’s failure to start the process for a rates variation saying it will set them back millions of dollars over the next 10 years.
Cr Arandale says his colleagues considered exhibiting a strategic plan to ratepayers that included a special rates variation but the motion failed to gain support, shelving the option.
The Leader states the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal estimates Glen Innes is facing a shortfall in income of 11pc over the next three years.
