Following consideration of a confidential employment matter, Council also resolved to terminate the employment and contracts of General Manager Bernard Smith in accordance with the relevant provisions of his contract.
Due to the confidential personnel and contractual nature of the matter, Council will not comment on the confidential discussion informing the decision.
Council thanks Mr Smith for his time and service to Glen Innes Severn and wishes him all the best for the future.
Riarna Sheridan has been appointed Acting General Manager while Council undertakes a process to recruit an Interim General Manager. The final appointment of an Interim General Manager will remain a decision of Council following the recruitment and assessment process.
Cr Davis said the meeting reflected an elected Council actively exercising its strategic and governance responsibilities.
“There has been significant work undertaken and there is still much more to do.
“Our focus now is on stability, strong governance, organisational improvement and delivery with the elected Council continuing to set direction, seek assurance and hold the organisation accountable for delivering for our community.”
