A public meeting held last Saturday aimed at re-engaging the local community and revitalising brigade operations at the Bukkulla Fire Station has failed.
NSW Rural Fire Service Northern Tablelands District manager Scott Mack says despite targeted letterbox drops and radio interviews, the meeting was poorly attended, with no volunteers expressing interest in joining or supporting the brigade adding this outcome reflects a broader challenge in sustaining engagement and operational viability in some of our smaller rural brigades.
Inspector Mack says given the lack of community response, they now face a difficult but necessary conversation about disbanding the Bukkulla Brigade which he believes will leave a big hole in RFS operations in that area, putting pressure on surrounding Brigades to provide coverage like Rocky Creek and Oakwood Brigades, who are also struggling.
He says he’s looking at organising a final Public Meeting on the 7th of September at Bukkulla RFB Station to discuss formally disbanding the Brigade.
