A former local athlete has returned from overseas after taking part in the 9^th World Junior Wushu Championships.

16 yr old Mia Szumowski, who now resides in Port Macquarie, set off early last week for the championship which was held in Brunei, where she was one of 3 martial arts athletes representing the Australian Sanda Team, and the only female representative of the team.

Though fighting gallantly, Mia was overcome by a fierce opponent from Vietnam and bowed out after the 2^nd round of the fight.

Mia says though she didn’t take a win, the trip was a rewarding experience.
