The NSW Rural Fire Service Northern Tablelands team have reminded residents in the Inverell, Glen Innes and Tenterfield Local Government Areas that fire permits are currently required for any burning activities.
Fines of up to $5,500 or 12 months in prison may apply if residents or landholders do not follow the process.
The RFS have now introduced the ability to apply for a permit online via the RFS website.
Once you have submitted your permit application, their team of staff and volunteers will endeavour to have your application processed within 3 working days.
Once you have received your Fire Safety Permit, either by a manual pad or via the online system, neighbours and the RFS must be advised of the burn no less than 24 hours prior to lighting your fire.
