Firefighters continue efforts to contain the Upper Bingara Road Fire, which began on 26th January due to a lightning strike.
The fire is burning in remote terrain and remains at ‘Advice’ level, currently classified as ‘Being Controlled’.
To date, the fire has burnt through more than 81 hectares and has a perimeter exceeding 6 km.
While containment efforts are progressing well, the remote location of the fire presents challenges for ground crews and equipment access.
Specialist Remote Area Firefighting Team (RAFT) firefighters are on the ground, supported by waterbombing aircraft, as they work to strengthen containment lines in challenging and inaccessible terrain.
Firefighters will remain on the fireground over the coming days to monitor conditions, reinforce containment lines, and respond to any changes in fire behaviour. The community will be updated as the situation evolves.
Advice
– Monitor Conditions: Stay up to date via the NSW RFS website, the Hazards Near Me app, and local radio.
– Prepare Your Property: Ensure firefighting equipment is ready, and clear any debris from around structures.
– Be Alert for Smoke: Smoke from the fire may be visible in surrounding areas, particularly around Lake Copeton and Bingara. If you have respiratory conditions, consider staying indoors.
– Road Closures: At this stage, there are no road closures, but authorities advise drivers to exercise caution due to smoke and emergency vehicles operating in the area.
