The Rifle Range Rd fire to the east of Inverell has been contained after burning for a week.
Residents in Stannifer, Elsmore and Gilgai had been on alert for the past week with the fire alert level rising to Watch and Act three times as strong winds played havoc with firefighting efforts.
Northern Tablelands Incident Controller Superintendent Daniel Osborne says the fire was brought under control following a sustained firefighting effort from RFS members supported by Fire and Rescue NSW, Forestry Corporation and National Parks adding it’s a pleasing result.
The fire burned out 1412 hectares
