A final reminder has been issued for users of 3G devices ahead of its network switch off by both Telstra and Optus at the end of the month.
Nationals Member and former Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has urged anyone with a 3G device to check if their device will continue to function after the switch off has occurred, as such devices though may continue to make normal phone calls, may not be able to make emergency calls.
Mr McCormack says it is imperative for people to check that their phones do not fall into this category as it could cause significant issues in an emergency, and that some smartwatches, tablets, EFTPOS terminals and personal emergency alarms may also be affected by the switch off.
Mr McCormack has encouraged users of 3G devices to text ‘3’ to ‘3498’ to receive an automated reply to inform whether their devices will work as normal after October 28th and to visit www.3gclosure.com.au for further information.
