Fifth Boy Charged After Alleged Attempted Break-In at Moree

A fifth boy has been charged after an alleged attempted break-in on a home in Moree over the weekend.

Officers attached to New England Police District were told five boys allegedly kicked the front door of a home on Boland Drive, Moree shortly before 3.20am on Saturday 4 October 2025, when they were confronted by a 56-year-old man who lived there.

A fight developed during which the man was allegedly hit in the head with a rock then his left forearm slashed with a knife. The boys left when a witness intervened.

Police were alerted and attended a property in Moree a short time later arresting three boys aged 13 and a fourth boy aged 11.

All were taken to Moree Police Station where they were charged and appeared before court where they were granted bail.

The man was taken to Moree Base Hospital for treatment for the wound to his arm.

Following extensive inquiries under Operation Soteria, about 3.45pm on Monday (6 October), police attended a home on Chester Street, Moree and arrested a 13-year-old boy.

He was taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding – in company and aggravated break and enter with intent- use violence.

He was refused bail and appeared before a Children’s Court yesterday (Tuesday 7 October 2025).

Investigations under Operation Soteria are continuing.
