Organisers of the 64th edition of the Squadron Energy Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic, are currently assessing potential issues from Tropical Cyclone Alfred in the lead up to this weekend’s event.

The Gwydir Hwy remains closed in both directions east of Glen Innes, between Bald Nob Road and Tindal Road, due to multiple hazards and dangerous weather conditions associated with ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Event Director Chris Thompson says they’re awaiting an assessment from Transport for NSW, who have teams stationed at Coffs Harbour ready to commence the clean-up and is hoping the highway will reopen on Wednesday.

Mr Thompson says he’s reasonably confident the race will go ahead subject to an inspection.
