Draft Inverell Youth Strategy and Action Plan Open for Community Feedback

Inverell Shire Council has received the Draft 2025–2030 Inverell Youth Strategy and Action Plan (YSAP) and is inviting the community to have their say on the document, which outlines a five-year vision to empower, support and celebrate the young people of the Inverell Shire.
Council endorsed the draft document to be placed on public exhibition at its October Ordinary Meeting.

The Inverell Youth Strategy and Action Plan provides a comprehensive framework to guide future investment, programs and infrastructure that enhance opportunities for youth aged 12 to 24 years.

Developed in collaboration with the Inverell Youth Advisory Council (YAC), community organisations, schools and local service providers, the strategy focuses on five key themes identified through extensive consultation:

  • Work & Life Ready
  • Access & Connectivity
  • Identity
  • Wellbeing
  • Community

Mayor, Cr Kate Dight said the strategy is the product of one of the most successful youth engagement projects Council has ever undertaken.
“We received feedback from nearly 600 young people across the Shire, which shows how passionate our youth are about shaping their community and their future,” Mayor Dight said.

“The strategy reflects their voices and will guide Council and its partners in delivering real outcomes that matter to them.”

Community engagement activities included surveys and workshops involving students from Macintyre High School, Inverell High School and Holy Trinity School, as well as youth service providers and Council staff.

Respondents shared priorities such as more traineeship opportunities, better transport options, mental health support, and events for young people.

Mayor Cr Kate Dight said the strategy highlights Council’s strong commitment to youth inclusion.

“Our young people are the future of the Inverell Shire,” Cr Dight said. “This strategy is about giving them a voice, providing opportunities and ensuring Inverell remains a place where young people feel valued, connected and supported.”

The Draft 2025–2030 Inverell Youth Strategy and Action Plan will be available for public exhibition on Council’s website and at Council offices until Monday 24th November, with community feedback encouraged before the plan’s final adoption.
