The Nationals party is bidding farewell to Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie after 11 yrs of service as he announces his intentions to not run at the 2025 Federal election and retiring from politics.
Dr Gillespie was elected The Nationals Member for Lyne in September 2013 and was re-elected in 2016, 2019 and 2022, holding a wide range of parliamentary positions including Minister for Regional Health, Minister Assisting the Minister for Trade and Investment, Assistant Minister for Children and Families, Assistant Minister for Health and Assistant Minister for Rural Health.
In recent times, Dr Gillespie has used his medical and scientific background to support the push towards nuclear energy, with both Dr Gillespie and Member for New England Barnaby Joyce holding a nuclear energy policy forum in Inverell in November last year advocating the use of nuclear versus renewable energy.
NSW Nationals Chair Rick Colless has thanked Dr Gillespie for his contributions towards both his party and electorate and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.
