New Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight believes there wasn’t a great division among councillors leading into yesterday’s mayoral election.
It follows comments made by former Mayor Paul Harmon who addressed the new council ahead of yesterday’s vote saying in his time as Mayor he had not seen the division that he had seen amongst councillors at pre polling prior to last month’s Local government elections and before yesterday’s vote.
Cr Dight defeated Cr Harmon in yesterday’s vote for Mayor while Cr Jo Williams was elected unopposed to the position of Deputy Mayor.
Speaking on STA FM on Thursday morning, Mayor Dight says there was a bit of tension ahead of yesterday’s vote adding that’s part of council elections and that it hadn’t been plain sailing during the past two terms of council.
Mayor Dight is hopeful that she will have a united Council.
