Daylight Savings Time Bill Introduced into State Parliament

by | Mar 20, 2026 | Politics

A new Bill has been introduced into state parliament aimed at shortening daylight savings time.

Member for Tweed Geoff Provest tabled the Bill in Parliament this week which has been supported by Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan and Clarence MP Richie Williamson.

The Bill would see daylight saving start at the end of October and finish at the end of February, with Mr Moylan suggesting this would make life easier for our communities on the QLD border.

In 2024, Attorney General Michael Daley confirmed there was no plans to make legislative changes to the provisions relating to Australian Eastern Daylight Time in NSW after receiving a petition from Member for Murray Helen Dalton, proposing a 4 month period for Daylight Savings Time from the 1st Sunday of November to the 1st Sunday of March

The Bill will be considered by Parliament in the first half of this year.
