CWA Inverell Turns 100

by | Oct 30, 2024 | Community | 0 comments

The Inverell Country Women’s Association are preparing for a big day on Friday when they celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Inverell CWA President Desie Kearsey says the Inverell Branch was set up in 1924 following the opening of the 1st branch in Bingara instigated by the late Grace Munro with the organisation now the biggest women’s organisation in Australia.

Mrs Kearsey is welcoming the community to Friday’s function starting at 10am in front of the Council Chambers where they’ll be unveiling a special rose to mark the occasion before they head to the Cenotaph where a new seat will be unveiled to the public at 11am.

She says special guests including Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan and many who have been involved with the CWA are heading to Inverell on Friday with the former head of the Associated Country Women of the World Ruth Shanks attending the event alongside former CWA State President Stephanie Stanhope and current CWA state secretary Pam Wright.
