The latest NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research data shows an increase in sexual assaults, domestic violence incidents and break and enters into non-businesses across the New England Northwest region in the last 12 months.
The statistics show that more than 1600 break and enters into a dwelling were recorded in the 12 months to June 2024, Domestic violence related assaults rose to 1835 while sexual assaults rose to 463 incidents.
In other data, there were 184 more incidents of steal from a retail store while stealing offences in general have also increased but the crackdown on vehicle theft had some encouraging results with 645 cars stolen in the 12 months to June 2024 compared to 727 in 2023.
The New England Northwest statistical region includes Tamworth, Armidale, Glen Innes, Gunnedah, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains, Moree, Narrabri, Tenterfield, Uralla and Walcha Local Government Areas
