Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight says Council will be the voice of the community that will reflect their opinion about the proposed 150-megawatt Inverell Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on the Gwydir Hwy, east of Inverell
Mayor Dight reiterated that Council is not the consent authority for the project but the Dept of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure as the proposal is a state significant development costing over $30 million.
Cr Dight highlighted that the proposal is in its infancy stage with multiple stages to follow before the project is approved or rejected and despite the community survey closing, she encouraged interested parties to register their interest via the South Energy – Inverell Battery Energy Storage System website.
Speaking on STA FM last week, Mayor Dight wasn’t prepared to share her personal opinions about the proposal adding Council need to have a balanced approach on the BESS.
