Representatives from councils within the Northern Tablelands region have held their first meeting at the Living Classroom in Bingara on Monday.
Attended by Mayors and General Managers along with Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moyal, the meeting was convened to give representatives an opportunity to share ideas and discuss issues affecting local government in the region.
Gwydir Shire Mayor Tiffany Galvin says the first gathering of regional council leaders was primarily a planning meeting to set out how the meetings would operate adding they’ll probably hold meetings on a quarterly basis, alternating between Bingara and Inverell as the towns are central locations for travelling purposes.
Mayor Galvin says the meetings will give new Mayors the chance to make new friendships and share ideas.
