Inverell Shire Council has received and noted an update from Homes North Community Housing regarding a funding application to support new housing in Inverell.
At its April Ordinary Meeting, Council was advised that Homes North has submitted an Expression of Interest under Round 3 of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF), a national initiative aimed at increasing the supply of social and affordable housing.
The submission, lodged on 13 March 2026, includes three proposed development projects within Inverell:
•98 Brae Street – expansion of an existing development and construction of additional new dwellings
•49 Vernon Street – replacement of an existing dwelling with two new units
•5–11 Angel Avenue – a proposed five-dwelling development in partnership with Council
Mayor Cr. Kate Dight said the update highlights ongoing efforts to address housing needs in the community.
“Access to safe and affordable housing is a key issue for regional communities, and it’s encouraging to see proposals being put forward to increase housing supply in Inverell. While this is an early stage in the process, Council welcomes the opportunity to be involved in initiatives that support housing outcomes for our community.”
The Housing Australia Future Fund was established by the Australian Government to deliver long-term investment in social and affordable housing across the country, including in regional areas.
At this stage, no outcome has been announced regarding the Expression of Interest, and it is not yet known whether the proposed projects will progress to the next stage of assessment.
Council noted that it will continue to work with relevant organisations and stakeholders to support housing initiatives where opportunities arise.
