Coulton Takes Government to Task on Inland Rail Project

by | Aug 23, 2024 | Rural, Transport | 0 comments

Outgoing Parkes MP Mark Coulton has taken the opportunity in Parliament this week to call out Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the halting of the Inland Rail project over the past two years.

Mr Coulton says over the years he’s heard speakers talk about issues from decentralisation, regional development and lower carbon emissions, to jobs for aboriginal people, lower use of fossil fuels and support for the steel industry.

He says there is one project that supports all of these issues and that’s the Inland rail project but stresses for the last two years, there’s been no activity north of Narromine.

Mr Coulton says the Prime Minister nor the Infrastructure Minister Catherine King hasn’t been out to those communities to explain why there hasn’t been any activity.

He says it’s time the Prime Minister himself visits the communities in his electorate that have been left in limbo to explain to the people what’s happened with this project.
