The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced a recall of a particular type of popular tyre brand.
Continental Tyres of Australia were urged to issue the recall of its ProContact AO tyres for passenger vehicles, with the tyre size 255 35R19 96H XL with the Department of Transport serial number starting with CP32 WMC9; these numbers can be found on the sidewall of the tyre near the rim.
The tyres have been recalled as the steel belt edges may begin to separate, which can lead to partial or full tread loss in the tyre, with consumers warned there is a risk of accident and serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users if tread separation occurs resulting a loss of vehicle control.
Consumers should contact Continental Tyres on 1800 316 372 or the place of purchase to arrange replacement of the tyres, free of charge.
