Community Urged to Get Involved in Cultural Workshops

by | Oct 12, 2026 | Arts & Culture, Community, Education

The Gwydir Waterways First Nations Art Project is a community-led creative project being delivered by Arts North West in partnership with the Gwydir Reconnecting Watercourse Country Program and the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder.

The project will bring community together to share cultural knowledge and stories connected to Country, waterways, plants and animals, with this knowledge helping to inform the development of artworks and designs for the broader Gwydir Waterways project. Importantly, the process is about ensuring local First Nations voices and knowledge are at the centre of the creative work.

We are currently inviting community to join us at Tingha Public School, 24 Sapphire Street, Tingha, with entry via the back gate only. Participation is free and no RSVP is required.

Wednesday 14 October 2026 | 10.00am–1.00pm
Project outline and yarn session – come along, hear more about the project, share knowledge and help shape what happens next.

Wednesday 28 October 2026 | 9.30am–3.30pm
Creative workshop and making session – an opportunity to get involved in the creative development of the project.

You do not need to be a professional artist to participate. We particularly want to hear from people with cultural and community knowledge, creative skills, stories and connections to Country.
