Residents are being urged to be vigilant and reports cases of injured, sick or dead koalas in the district.
Due to the current mating season in progress, koalas are on the move, and locals are being reminded of the importance of reporting all injured and dead koalas as there may be orphaned joeys nearby, or in pouches.
Tanya Arentz from WIRES says they’re coming into their rescue season due to koalas being more active as they look for breeding partners and also highlighted they’re receiving calls of cases of Chlamydia Percorum in sick koalas.
Ms Arentz says there’s signs the public should be looking for if a koala is sick including where it’s sitting in a tree as well as physical signs.
