Community Sessions to Discuss a Proposed Inverell Battery Storage System.

by | Jul 24, 2025 | Environment, Community | 0 comments

Renewable Energy Developer South Energy will be staging two information sessions in Inverell next week to gauge community interest in a proposed Inverell Battery Storage System.

South Energy is studying approximately 10 hectares for the proposed BESS site on the Gwydir Hwy which will connect to the nearby Transgrid Inverell substation.

The proposed storage system is a large scale rechargeable battery that stores excess electricity and releases it back into the grid when needed to support a stable and reliable power supply.

In a letter to residents, South Energy state the process from scoping to final approval or rejection for the BESS project typically takes 12-15 months, and if approved, construction is anticipated to start in around 2 years at the earliest, depending on other various factors.

Information sessions will take place on Wednesday 30th July at the Inverell Club between 3 and 6pm and Thursday 31st of July at Freckles Café between 7am and 12 noon.
