The Inverell community are being invited to two information sessions tomorrow and Thursday to gauge their interest in a proposed Inverell Battery Storage System.
Renewable Energy Developer South Energy will be staging the sessions and is studying approximately 10 hectares for the proposed BESS site on the Gwydir Hwy which will connect to the nearby Transgrid Inverell substation.
The proposed storage system is a large-scale rechargeable battery that stores excess electricity and releases it back into the grid when needed to support a stable and reliable power supply.
In a letter to residents, South Energy state the process from scoping to final approval or rejection for the BESS project typically takes 12-15 months, and if approved, construction is anticipated to start in around 2 years at the earliest, depending on other various factors.
Information sessions will take place on tomorrow at the Inverell Club between 3 and 6pm and this Thursday at Freckles Café between 7am and 12 noon.
