St Mary of the Angels Catholic Church at Bundarra has celebrated its last mass with the property to go under the hammer in July.
Parish Priest Father Paul Chandler says the town has been in decline since its heyday when there were many farms and families both within the town as well as in the surrounding district adding it’s sad to witness both the decline of the town and of the Church’s congregation
The Parish of Inverell has put the catholic church and accompanying presbytery on the market due to a lack of maintenance funds and and dwindling congregation with Fr Paul saying it’s become financially impossible to do the repairs and maintenance that are needed both on the church building as well as the house that is beside it, adding they don’t have the income to maintain it.
Fr Paul says there was a fond and memorable farewell to the church on May 11th when the last Mass was celebrated there with many parishioners taking some items from the church as mementos and have given a kind donation to the parish
The property will be sold on Saturday July 5th at 11am.
