Gunnedah Shire Mayor Jamie Chaffey is looking forward to packing up his office if he wins the seat of Parkes in the upcoming Federal Election in 2025 after securing his preselection as The Nationals’ candidate on Saturday.
Mayor Chaffey beat 2 other candidates to win the preselection in Narrabri, with the Mayor now taking over as candidate after outgoing member John Coulton announced his retirement from politics earlier this year.

The seat has grown in size yet again after gaining the Local Government Areas of Parkes, Forbes and Bland, officially increasing the seat to 50% of the state of NSW, making it one of the largest sized seats in Australia.
Nationals Leader David Littleproud congratulated Mr Chaffey on his ascension as candidate, saying Mr Chaffey is a true local champion who has worked hard for the people of regional NSW, with Mr Chaffey saying he is deeply committed to continuing the legacy of Mr Coutlon delivering for the people of the Parkes electorate.
The Federal Election is due to take place in May of 2025.
