Cane Toad Sightings & Surveillance in Glen Innes Severn LGA

by | Mar 24, 2025 | Agriculture, Local Government, Media Release | 0 comments

Glen Innes Severn Council has been notified of a cane toad (Rhinella marina) report within our Local Government Area.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries and Northern Tablelands Local Land Services are working with the reporter and local businesses to ensure biosecurity processes are in place to conduct inspections for cane toads.

Cane toads can spread by stowing away in freight, green waste and timber, potentially establishing new populations that threaten local ecosystems and communities and are a declared pest under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015.

Any sightings must be reported.

The NSW Cane Toad Biosecurity Zone helps prevent their further spread.

Community awareness is vital in stopping the spread. Cane toads can be identified by their dry warty skin, large glands behind the eyes and distinctive hopping movement. If you see a suspected cane toad, do not touch or move it – report it immediately.
