Camping Fees Could Cost Families

by | May 27, 2025 | Environment, Lifestyle, Politics | 0 comments

The NSW Government has proposed an increase to the cost of camping in NSW National Parks with Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan believing the move could prevent families from engaging with regional parts of the state.

Mr Moylan says camping has always been an affordable way for families to escape the hustle and bustle and relax in the natural environment without breaking the bank.

Some of the proposed changes include consistent and equitable camping fees linked to services, facilities and demand, a simpler fee per campsite per night, removal of booking and extra-person fees, and more generous refunds of up to 80% to encourage cancellations when plans change.

The local MP says the Northern Tablelands is full of picturesque and accessible national parks which brings a significant number of tourists to the region adding if the cost of camping in the state’s national parks increases, other parts of the region will suffer including small businesses like cafés and pubs.

The NSW government believes the proposed changes to camping fees in New South Wales national parks and reserves are designed to support a better experience for park visitors.
