NSW Transport will gazette Campbell St in Inverell as the main highway instead of streets in the CBD.
Inverell Shire Council had been agitating for the change for some time, which currently sees the Gwydir Highway come over the main bridge into Byron St and then into Otho Street, with some heavy vehicle drivers having to navigate tight turns in the CBD whilst using their GPS and in some cases causing damage to Council’s infrastructure.
Mayor Paul Harmon says Campbell Street will now become the main highway from the town bridge to the roundabout where the sapphire monument stands, giving truck drivers an easier access through town.
He says once approved and gazetted, Campbell St will be under NSW Transport control while council will own and maintain Byron and Otho streets
