The Inverell community will farewell one of its most respected and prominent citizens today when hospital campaigner Bob Bensley is laid to rest.
Mr Bensley was involved with local cricket as a player with Nullamanna and was the inaugural Inverell Junior Cricket Association, as well as being the Treasurer of Inverell Sports Council.
He was involved in various groups including Probus, Apex, the Uniting Church, Ross Hill Public and Inverell High school’s P & C’s, was a councillor on Inverell Municipal Council where he served as Deputy Shire President and deputy Mayor.
In later years, Mr Bensley had been a strong advocate for the construction of the new Inverell Hospital and was also outspoken about health services in the town.
He received an Order of Australia medal in 2020 for his services to the Inverell community.
His funeral will be held at the Uniting Church this morning at 10:30.
