A former Inverell Shire Deputy Mayor and businesswoman has been recognised in the 2025 Australia Day Honor roll.
Di Baker was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her service to local government and service to the community of Inverell.
She says she feels honored to receive an OAM.
Mrs Baker was a councillor at Inverell Shire Council for 25 years and during that time, served as deputy mayor and chaired many community committees and programs and also volunteered her time to the Inverell Equestrian Centre where she is a life member.
She founded Baker’s Barn Saddlery, along with her husband Ken, in 1987 and has also been part of various clubs and community groups, including being a founding member of Operation Operating Room.
Mrs Baker is one of 3 Northern Tablelands residents to be recognised this year with Walcha’s Anna Barwick receiving an OAM for service to the pharmacy profession while Moree’s Inspector Helen Therese McWilliam received an APM for distinguished service in the Australian police force.
Gwydir shire’s Patricia Hadley received an OAM for her service to community recognised as a member of Rotary, Inner Wheel, RSL, Ladies Auxiliary, the Rural Fire Service, and many more community-based organisations.
