Australia’s First Festival of Listening Launches in Inverell

by | Feb 21, 2025 | Arts & Culture, Media Release | 0 comments

A unique offering that connects people through the simple practices of listening and sharing stories, the Inverell Listening Festival offers 6 free events from 2-12 March.

Community members of all ages are invited to come and play Listen For.. the storytelling game with a twist.

The game was created by social innovation cooperative Percolab, and is played across the world in homes, communities and at work to build relationships and understanding.

“A listening festival might seem unusual, and the game is a very clever way of creating and strengthening connections between people, even those you’ve never met,” said Percolab member and Inverell local Jane O’Brien.

“Listening is a basic human skill for living happy, healthy and connected lives” she said. “The simple practice of listening can help transform relationships, and help us get good work done.”

Mrs O’Brien said the team is hosting 3 public games, two at the Inverell Markets and an after-work event at the Welder’s Dog.

“All events are free, with snacks, and will last for just over an hour. The Listen For.. game guides us to share stories and listen in small groups.”

She said there will also be sessions at local schools, at a community service interagency meeting, and the New England & North West Landcare Adventure.

“It’s a wonderful chance to connect with others in a relaxed atmosphere, through stories from our everyday lives”.
“A question we are asking is: What’s possible when we really listen to each other?”
