Arnold Elected as New Deputy Mayor of Uralla Shire

by | Nov 18, 2025 | Local Government, Media Release | 0 comments

At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on Tuesday, 23 September 2025 Council appointed Councillor Kath Arnold as Deputy Mayor.

Cr Arnold takes over the role from Cr Tom O’Connor, who served as Deputy Mayor during the previous term. The Deputy Mayor is elected by the Councillors and serves as a key support to the Mayor, stepping in when the Mayor is unavailable and assisting with civic duties and community representation.

Cr Arnold, who is serving her first term on Council, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to take on the role.

“I’m honoured to have been elected by my fellow Councillors to serve as Deputy Mayor,” Cr Arnold said. “I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the Mayor and Council to support our community and deliver positive outcomes for the Shire.”

Mayor Robert Bell welcomed Cr Arnold to the leadership role and acknowledged Cr O’Connor’s ongoing contribution to the Shire.

“Kath brings a fresh perspective and strong community focus to the Deputy Mayor role,” Mayor Bell said. “I’d also like to sincerely thank Cr Tom O’Connor for his dedication and service over the past term. His knowledge and commitment have been greatly appreciated.”

The Deputy Mayor is elected annually by Councillors in accordance with the Local Government (General) Regulation 2021. The election is conducted by open vote or secret ballot, depending on Council’s adopted procedures.

Cr Arnold will serve as Deputy Mayor until the next scheduled election of the position in September 2026.
