A 37-year-old man charged with the murder of his 70-year-old mother at Mole River near Tenterfield will have his case back in the courts in November.
Phillip John Denton has been charged with murder following a domestic violence incident where it’s alleged he had entered a property and attempted to steal a vehicle before assaulting the homeowner, a 74-year-old man.
Police arrested the Denton before attending the neighbouring property, where they located a body of the 70-year-old woman.
The house the woman was found in had also been partially damaged by fire.
New England Times reports Denton appeared in Court yesterday with a mental health order made but was withdrawn almost immediately after the police prosecutor pointed out the matter was too serious for the order to be given.
The matter will be back at Armidale Local Court on the 18th of November.
