ACM Newspapers Stop Printing Local Newspapers

by | Sep 17, 2024 | Community | 0 comments

The final copies of several Australian Community Media newspapers will be printed this week, bringing an end of an era in reporting local issues.

Publications including the Inverell Times, Moree Champion, Tenterfield Star, Glen Innes Examiner, and Country Leader were to be printed for the final time yesterday.

It’s believed nine roles across sales and editorial could be made redundant if staff weren’t able to be redeployed.

In making the decision to stop printing 8 regional newspapers, ACM blamed the closure at the feet of social media giant Meta, and its decision not to renew its $200m three-year deal with local newspaper publishers.

ACM managing director Tony Kendall says while the papers’ websites would remain running, local journalists would be redeployed to larger mastheads and continue to cover the regions from a distance.
