An added blow has been dealt to leading independent media company Australian Community Media as a number of employees have now been put on notice of redundancy after an announcement made yesterday.
This follows news that the media company were forced to shut down 8 of its regional print publications last month, 5 of them belonging to the New England and North West region of NSW including the Country Leader, Glen Innes Examiner, Tenterfield Star, Moree Champion and The Inverell Times.
Employees were briefed yesterday on plans for a voluntary redundancy program for ACM’s editorial teams, with Managing Director Tony Kendall blaming Meta’s cancellation of news funding arrangements in Australia, saying the decision was put off as long as possible, however like other media businesses in Australia, ACM were not immune to the headwinds in the advertising market and in the print industry more broadly.
The Inverell Times advised in an article that the redundancy program is expected to affect 35 roles and may include journalist, photographer, production and designer positions.
