A working smoke alarm has saved the lives of the occupants of a house in Urabatta St, Inverell on Monday morning.
Fire and Rescue NSW Inverell Captain Robbie Wighton says the smoke alarm woke and alerted the occupants to the fire which is believed to have started by a wood heater at the rear of the premises.
Emergency crews were alerted to the blaze just after 6am with the fire gutting around 75% of the house.
The occupants weren’t injured during the ordeal and were treated by local paramedics at the scene.
