A former Inverell resident has revealed her cancer story and asked the community to check their bodies constantly for any changes.
Melissa White, who now resides in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, is battling a rare melanoma called MUCOSAL Melanoma which is an aggressive type of cancer that starts in mucous membrane in various parts of the body including nose, lips, mouth, anus and vagina.
Melissa, who is recovering from her 13th operation since being diagnosed 5 years ago, says little is known about this type of cancer and insufficient research funds have been put aside by governments to investigate mucosal melanoma.
She says local pharmacy Campbell and Freebairn chemist is jumping on board to raise some funds for the cause be selling special wristbands and taking donations
