The Inverell Hawks have gone down to the North Tamworth Bears 34-18 in a pre-season hit out at Jack Woolaston Oval in Tamworth on Saturday.
After a sluggish start where the Bears dominated play , the Hawks worked their way back into the contest by putting pressure back on the hosts, forcing them into several errors and penalties.
1st grade coach Jamie McCormack says the match comprised of three 20 minute thirds, admitting they lost the first 2 but won the last 3rd which gave the squad a real boost.
He says they’ll now have the next two weeks to put the finishing touches to the squad and focus on their round 1 Group 19 match against the Uralla Tigers on Saturday 5th April.
