Flights to and out of Armidale have been cancelled until at least this Saturday after it was revealed the airports tarmac had been damaged.
Contractors who had been working to patch parts of the runway for the past month, noticed cracks on the edge of the runway on Sunday.
The Northern Daily Leader reports a meeting yesterday between acting Airport general manager Daniel Robinson, contractors, council staff and a Qantaslink representative was expected to discuss the logistics of future flights and repairing the runway.
Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan says buses have been arranged to transport passengers to Tamworth where Qanta has added an additional 3 Sydney – Tamworth services to manage the situation.
Anyone booked to fly Qantaslink are urged to visit the airline’s website at Qantas Flight Status, while those flying with Link Airways should phone 1300 851 269 for the latest updates.
