Labor has announced its candidate for the upcoming federal election with educator Laura Hughes to run against incumbent Barnaby Joyce.
The Northern Daily leader reports thar Ms Hughes will be focusing her campaign on healthcare, building on the success of Tamworth’s Urgent Care Clinic in the New England and recruiting doctors to the region.
Ms Hughes ran at the last federal election, achieving a 1.2 per cent swing for the ALP on preference votes, but not the 17.8% she required to win the seat.
Three years on, she says many things have changed pointing out that Labor is in power, Mr Joyce is no longer the leader of his party, and the shape of the electorate itself has expanded adding there’s a lot of people are who are now looking for a new alternative
