The Inverell Lions Club have confirmed their involvement with the Lions Hearing Dogs program as their latest project.
Lion Peter Kearsey says an Inverell resident has been the recipient of a hearing dog and some of their members are undertaking a 12 week training course to ensure the dog can assimilate into the community.
The dog is a 12 month old labradoodle named Fenby which has been trained as part of the Lions Hearing Dogs program in Adelaide with local Lions members assisting the resident and the dog to get familiar with the various actions and its surroundings.
Mr Kearsey says Fenby will assist its owner with sound-based occurrences around the house from a ringing phone, washing machine, knock at the front door as well as alerting the resident of a smoke alarm alert where the dog starts crawling on its belly, instructing the resident to do the same.
